Microbes are micro-organisms. They are so tiny that you can’t see them without a
microscope! Microbes are the tiniest friends, and enemies, that you have! They are
sometimes called ‘bugs’ because they can cause problems like disease but they are
not all bad. Microbes include bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites.

Microbes are everywhere! They live all around you, on you and inside you! Microbes are tiny; you can’t see them even if you squint really hard! Don’t worry though; most microbes won’t do you any harm at all! Some microbes make you sick but most others keep you healthy and help you to fight disease. Microbes are divided into four main groups – bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites.
Some of the best friends you have are microbes like GI Jake that help to keep you healthy and fight disease.
There are so many different types of microbes that scientists still don’t really know how many there are, but they do know that microbes do lots of different things! There are good microbes that are used in food, others that are used in medicine and more that are used to clean up your environment. There aren’t that many bad microbes, however they can make you sick or cause food to rot.
